What is alternative medicine?

The term “alternative” medicine is a deep, that a number of health and healing methods described. In general, if you “alternative” you are on drugs and general health practices, products, etc., not to mention the part of conventional medical social systems. Sometimes referred to as “complementary” medicine refers when, in addition to use, but in contrast to conventional systems, the term encompasses everything from folk medicine to faith healing, therapeutic massage. In other words, if you can not learn in medical school or in conventional hospitals, it is considered “alternative.”

There are so many different approaches to health and wellness grouped under the alternative title, it may be difficult, if not one of them to decide. Diets, homeopathy, acupuncture, herbology, yoga, probiotics and New Age healing are just some of the possibilities of alternative medicine covered. But how can one know what is real, what is quackery?

There are many sources of alternative medicine practice, scientific studies and try it. A quick search in the library or the Internet results in numerous studies and first hand experience that prove or disprove the value of some alternative method you can imagine. Ask friends and family as they try a certain treatment or practice, you’ll be surprised how many people go outside of conventional medicine for alternative therapies. Many of us already use alternative medicine, without realizing it.

Remember when Grandma was on her special chicken soup when you were sick, or a friend recommended an egg yolk mask for acne, just because of what her mother has done?

These are good examples of alternative medicine, and there is ample research indicating that they have real-world value. Chicken soup is easy to eat when you are sick and need moisture, vitamins, minerals and protein to recover you. The high protein content in egg yolk soft and enriches the skin and dries it pulls impurities, and all this without adding oil or dry. Just because a doctor did not prescribe them does not necessarily mean that they do not work.

Some alternative medicines have conventional medicine. Acupuncture, a part of traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced for thousands of years and is considered traditional in many Asian countries. However, acupuncture has been accepted for pain treatment in the United States. Acupuncturists claim that it will help everything from weight to infertility, but this is not definitively proven in scientific research. Practitioners in the United States are very well trained and are licensed for the treatment of patients. Licenses are not infallible, but there are additional security that a professional with high standards that your treatment. Further evidence of the acceptance is that many insurance companies cover the treatment by a licensed acupuncturist.

It is still important to take care in the selection of alternative medicine. Make sure and do your homework. Although it might not hurt to egg on your face, the herb, not knowing how they interact with other medicines or that the correct dose can cause serious problems. To an unlicensed practitioner for something like acupuncture can cause serious injury. You should consult with your current doctor for alternative medications that you consider to be discussed. Make sure you carefully weigh the risks and benefits before it something new. Always allow each doctor all of your medical history and current practice know.

Many people find good results of alternative and complementary medicine. If this “new” to explore possibilities, you will find that there old ways, your body and mind, to take overlooked by modern western medicine. Careful research and a responsible use can help you find a better lifestyle and enjoy good health.
